After staying in Lander for about a week, we decided to visit Pagosa Springs, CO and the wonderful, generous people who run and own Voormi. They had graciously invited us to stay at their home on some acreage, and, even though our Buster neighbors were delightful, Frog and Sadee were itching for some leash-free romping. Navigating a route through the Rocky Mountain front was interesting as the app that we were using to help us -RV life, kept encouraging us to take detours around mountain passes that would add multiple hours to our travel time. So it was this balance of not trying to be THAT person that delays miles of cars while we are heaving up a giant, winding mountain pass with our egregiously large camper, and not traveling excess hours with a toddler and 2 dogs in 90+ degree heat. Thankfully our truck is a beast and Walt is a skilled driver so we were able to make it to Pagosa safely and efficiently. The only time that was concerning was the last hour before we got to Pagosa, the RV app kept insisting that we take an alternate route that would add 2+ hours and so I advised Walt to continue the path that Google was telling us to take. Turns out it was Wolf Creek Pass with a nearly a 7% grade on either side and when we were coming down, an overturned semi was on the road from a few days prior and provided an ominous overtone for the remainder of the journey down the mountain. Oh yeah, and Olive has her Kindle and I am not too proud to say it is a delightfully wonderful device for road trips and maintaining sanity.
